It is easy to succumb to childhood pleasures during the deep-freeze of Maine winter: sledding, snowman crafting, and my personal favorite snuggling and bundling oneself in extra layers*. Craig Thompson's introspective graphic novel, Blankets, celebrates many of these seasonal pursuits, taking place mostly in the harrowing Wisconsin winters of his formative years. Thompson's deeply humbling and personal coming-of-age tale is a must-read pleasure, best accompanied by a warm glass of apple cider and, of course, the perfect blanket on a snowy day. Lina Rennell's eco-friendly sheep's wool blanket would do the job perfectly.

*As I actually grew up in sunny Florida, these never were true childhood pursuits for me, which is perfect because now I feel I am making up for lost time.
